THE METHOD
Make the evidence useful.
Choose one bounded job.
“Write a source-bound meeting summary” is a testable task. “Be better at business” is not. Pick candidates that actually support the same job; comparing a video generator with a research assistant proves very little.
Keep the starting conditions comparable.
Use the same approved source packet and instructions. Record the exact plan, mode, settings, and date. A result produced with extra information is a different test, not a fair win.
Define success before the first answer.
For a summary, check facts, dates, missing information, and requested structure. For media, check composition, continuity, pronunciation, or the precise output you need. Use examples of acceptable and unacceptable work.
Record the whole attempt.
Keep original outputs, corrections, retries, review time, and observed usage. Do not report a numerical score unless you explain what it measures. One attractive output is not a reliability study.
Decide narrowly and leave a review date.
A sensible conclusion is “usable for this task with these checks.” It is not “safe for every client.” Keep account connection, sending, publishing, and spending outside the trial unless separately authorized.
A fictional example: the missing owner
Source packet: The team approved a draft outline. The deadline is Friday. No owner is assigned. Publication has not been approved.
Test task: Turn those notes into a four-line status summary without adding facts.
Hypothetical draft A: “Alex will publish the finished report Friday.”
Review: It invents an owner, turns an outline into a finished report, and invents publication approval. A fluent sentence can fail every important check.
Hypothetical draft B: “Outline approved. Deadline: Friday. Owner: not assigned. Publication: awaiting approval.”
Review: It preserves the provided facts and the unknowns. These are authored teaching examples, not outputs or performance claims about any named tool.
